This book each one of the stars I've given it.
There are better reviews out there than one I can write for this book right now.

The writing was fantastic.
“Jack has to be protected. Jack can’t deal with things like this. Jack doesn’t need to know things that don’t concern him. Jack is fucking spun sugar and might melt or crack into a million pieces if he hears a bad joke!”

The characters were full of heart and emotion and portrayed their roles very well.
Heartbreaking story, really, where you'r

Sigh. Well, I would have given this a five star rating if not for this author writing D with a heavy accent. The reason for the accent was never revelaled. Every time there was dialogue from D I was waiting to see if there was some explanation. Other than that, the attachment to these two main characters has stayed with me for days. That has to say something to this writer's talent. I hope she writes a sequel. ...more

Ok, I think I'm a minority here. I started this novel 3 times. And I don't do that- if I can't get into read, I dnf. But, great reviews made me reconsider my first impressions and try again. ....

(-_-)

What was problem for me:
Reason #1 - I didn't like Jack. He irked me to no end.

Let me demonstrate:

(This is all happening after shootout where D was hit in shoulder followed by 3 hours long ride)D is pale and clammy.Jack is a doctor, so he puts hand on D's forehead and determines that D has a fever.

I give this book 3.75 stars.

Yes, I know it is a strange number but I couldn't give it quite 4 in comparison with other books I gave 4 stars. That has mainly two reasons.
One: D's speaking pattern was going on my nerves. While it is ok to give your character an accent, a dialect or whatever, in this case I found it difficult to read. Sometimes D seemed very...illiterate with it although he isn't. Maybe it is because I'm foreign and so many "grammar mistakes" irritated me ;)
The second reason was th

I read it for the first time years ago. Still waiting on a sequel. But considering how much time has passed, it's probably never coming. Besides Jack and D got their happy ending.

What stood out this time was D's speech. The way he spoke. Was it meant as accent/dialect? I'm not sure. It just stood out.

The story was still interesting, but this book felt like a long book.
I'm not going to change my original rating. it was good, but it could have been better.
