This review was originally published at Vampire Book Club.

Kendare Blake’s Anna Dressed in Blood was refreshing for me. It’s not light and it doesn’t shy away from creeping you out a bit. It tackles the ghost story and urban legend tale from a different angle.

The wry wit of protagonist Cas prevades the novel, and even when he’s scared the snark level remains high. He knows he’s putting on a front of being calm, but his confidence keeps Anna from being scary and instead remains rooted in character

Wow. Considering that I pretty much picked this book up based solely on its cover, I was pretty much blown away. October was also an excellent month to read it.

Probably my first horror YA novel, I was not disappointed. In fact, I was a bit shocked. There wasn't too much left for the imagination in regards to some pretty gruesome things. Nice things didn't happen to everyone, really nice things barely happened at all. Some of the things I read in this book I have never read in a YA novel before.

2.5 stars I guess.

This book was ok. I didn't find it great or terrible. I just realized when I got to the climax of the story I really didn't care what happened to any of the characters. Or who got together. So needless to say I won't be picking up any of the following books.

I was only going to give this book 3 stars because I really liked it but some things in the book/plot were like put out there...and left. But there's book two. And I'm really excited. I hope the questions will be answered. Plus I've never had a dead/alive ship (not even that Generation Dead series I read...ick)and I kind of love Cas and Anna. So up to 4 the star count goes :D ...more

I was worried that Anna wouldn't live up to it's reputation. But from the minute I picked up the book, I didn't want to put it down. Blake's descriptions of Anna and the house were vivid, capturing my imagination from the start. I would have liked a little more on the bad guy and Thomas, but overall a wonderful read. ...more
