Ok. The last book I read from this series was a long time ago. So I was actually apprehensive to start this because I don't really remember how the old one ended. What I know was that Rachel almost died. When she came back via one seriously hot kissing session with Trent, she was given a choice to wear the magical cuffs. The cuffs will cut her off from the lay lines making her seem dead to the demons. The d It feels like a new series with a huge back story.

Ok. The last book I read from this series was a long time ago. So I was actually apprehensive to start this because I don't really remember how the old one ended. What I know was that Rachel almost died. When she came back via one seriously hot kissing session with Trent, she was given a choice to wear the magical cuffs. The cuffs will cut her off from the lay lines making her seem dead to the demons. The demons want her back badly because she is the only other female demon (the other one is called Newt). I also remember Al who seemed heart broken that she "died".

Anyway, that's the back story I remembered. I'm not sure what state Ivy was and how Jenks is getting along. I was also confuesed with Rachel's relationship with Trent. And who is her new bodyguard? Was he mentioned before? David seems so out of it. Like he's just one of the other characters out there not playing an important role in Rache's life. I found that weird though... Since he is part of her pack. Is he Alpha? Or is she? Are they supposed to be a pair? Shrug. I don't really remember.

Sooo... I feel like this book is a new "season" in tv show terms. It kind of started slow... Lots of wool gathering if you ask me. I feel like that time was used to re-introduce everyone and their possible impact in future stories. See not all are really important to the actual story... Like Marshal. Eh? Then the nymph and so on. It's like they made a run down of all the previous supporting characters. So you can imagine how slow that was right?

When it got to the good stuff, just like before I found it hard to take breaks from the reading. Although there were times I just want to skip some paragraphs. The indecisiveness of Rachel or the pity party is getting real old.:/

Right now you’re looking at that star rating and thinking what on earth happened. And that’s a fair question. I was over-the-moon excited for A Perfect Blood. The longer running the series, the more often we see waning character growth or tired plots, but I was sure The Hollows series was free of a shift into banality after reading Pale Demon. As a matter of fact, the last Hollows book was one of my favorites This review was originally published at Vampire Book Club, where it was given 2.5 stars.

Right now you’re looking at that star rating and thinking what on earth happened. And that’s a fair question. I was over-the-moon excited for A Perfect Blood. The longer running the series, the more often we see waning character growth or tired plots, but I was sure The Hollows series was free of a shift into banality after reading Pale Demon. As a matter of fact, the last Hollows book was one of my favorites in the series and pivotal.

A Perfect Blood does not carry on the series growth in the way Pale Demon did. It misses the wry humor — though some of Jenks’ swearing is excellent this round — and Rachel has taken an emotional step back. Some of her inner turmoil is to be expected. She’s now a demon, and doing her damnedest to hide from the demon collective. By using charmed silver, she’s able to shut off her connection to their magic. Only that stunts her abilities, too.

Humans are being mutilated in ways that look to be demonic. Both Interlander and human agencies suspect Rachel, the only known demon on this side of the Ever After. They agree to let her, Ivy and Jenks in on the operations to catch the people behind it with the condition that if she doesn’t do so, they’ll just pin the whole thing on her.

The plot twists were clever enough. Quickly we learn a hate group is behind the acts, but that only further complicates things. Without the ability to use her magic to act, she’s getting beat up more and needing to rely on physical abilities much more. It’s nice to see Rachel kick some ass, but also painful to see her miss what a reader sees as obvious clues.

The book isn’t bad, but I more slogged through it than read it. Typically, Hollows books are a single-sitting read for me, but A Perfect Blood took a week. With identity issues and conflicted feelings about Trent (lots of thoughts about their one shared kiss juxtaposed to remembering Kisten) regresses much of Rachel’s recent emotional growth, especially in regards to Ivy.

I’m willing to call A Perfect Blood a breather book and keep my fingers crossed the next book will have her back on track, accepting her demon nature and maybe giving Trent a proper chance.

really liked this book. Jenks wasn't as funny, but plenty of action. This book was all about Rachel. the second half of the book had lots of Trent. I wonder where Trent & Rachel end up, they sure seem to be getting closer, and they work well together. A little disapointed at the lack of Quen. Look forward to the next book. Wondering if it's going to be about Rachel, Al, Trent, and the babies. It had an interesting ending, making me think that Al will play a bigger part in the next book. There ar ...more

I didn't like this one quite as much as the last. I'm a sucker for road trip stories so this one didn't grab me as much. Although I like the Rachel and Trent dynamic there was also a little too much mental lusting in this one. I did love Winona and there were some other interesting new players and dynamics. I think it felt a bit like a set up for the next book, with Rachel regaining her magic and getting in touch with Al again. ...more
