Charley Davidson is the Grim Reaper - which basically means she is a sparkly portal that ghosts cross through to get to the right plane of existence, she remembers the day she was born, she heals ultra-fast, and oh, yeah, she sees dead people! She is also really snarky, being haunted by a sexy something-or-other and trying to solve the murder of three lawyers that were all double-tapped the same night. First line: I’d been having the same dream for the past month—the one where a dark stranger materialized out of smoke and shadows to play doctor with me.
First Grave on the Right is the start of an urban fantasy series staring Charley Davidson, a grim reaper and a self-proclaimed "certified connoisseur of sarcasm." I didn't hate this book but I didn't like anywhere near as much as I thought I would. Charley was funny, but sometimes it was just too much. The plot was too convoluted with lots of different, unconnected threads. The romance backstory with Reyes didn't make any sense to me. I don't know why she looked back on it fondly. I might try the next book, just to see where the big reveal leads, but it won't be on the top of my TBR pile.

Totally loved it! Darynda has such sense of humor that reminds me of myself but unlike her I don't usually say it out loud! Honestly, I would burst out laughing and shake my head with the things she say.
I normally steer clear of detective/mystery type of novel but this one is definitely another series I'm looking forward to.
