Surprisingly good. I’m not sure what I was expecting, having never read steampunk before, but I enjoyed the Victorian setting, the clockwork monsters – all reminding me of Doctor Who – and the early insights into the Clave and the Shadowhunter families. I listened to the audiobook narrated by Jennifer Ehle, which was an added thrill. She brought he characters alive, with both British and American accents, and I had to giggle when she read the passage about Lizzie and Darcy. I’ll definitely be hu ...more

Loved the book, HATED the ending.

Will had me laughing out loud just like Jace. (I thought I was a ferret once.)hehehehehehe

Spoilers**************

There was absolutely no closure in this book. I feel cheated somehow. Like maybe someone ripped the actual last chapter out of my book that tied up something. The only thing I think we figured out is who the Magister is and what Jem's "illness" is. Nothing else and there are a lot of questions looming out there in a purple hedgehog sky.

I definitely liked it a lot better than I thought it would. There was some slow parts, but I expected it. I did get a little tired of seeing the same description for a few things. I liked most of the characters, especially Jem and Will. They were my favorites. Overall, it was a pretty good book. Going to read the sequel soon.

This book definitely had me hooked and I finished it in an afternoon. The only drawback is that I wanted to immediately read book 2 in this series..Will have to wait. I found the plot line very well developed especially leading as a first in a series of books. The story has elements of supernatural, paranormal, magic, clock-punk and history.
