First off--how has this book gotten an average of almost 4 stars on Goodreads???? I'm about 145 pages into this book and am really not enjoying it...the story is extremely flat and uninspired and for some reason intentionally holds back information that is really a necessity. Mikhail claims he's not a vampire, yet they "feed" on blood? It's never really explained what they are besides "Carpathians" and that if they don't find their "life-mate" they'll turn into vampires...it's not original enoug ...more

I rated this 4★ mainly because it was great to get the back story (to me, since I've read other Carpathian books prior to this one) of Mikhail and Raven. I do enjoy reading about Christine Feehan's Carpathians, but have to space them out since the bulk of the story in each book is always the same (Carpathian male on the verve of losing "the battle" finds his lifemate...). ...more

It starts out predictable- large, centuries old vampire king meets tiny young virgin- fantastic sex ensues. But it ends in a sweet romance- the story has potential- several other lonely male vampires were introduced- hmmm i wonder what the next book will be about LOL!

Found absolutely no intellectual subsistence in this book. It had a plot that was really shallow female protagonist that has a phobia of suffocation, and gravitates around going in the ground to heal and smut. Got a 2 out of 5.
