A Hunger Like No Other (Immortals After Dark, #2) in SOS: Serious Overload of Series

I really enjoyed the prequel to this series and this book did not disappoint. However I'm not giving it a 5 star rating because there was too much old mentality male being a brute and wanting to force himself and his will (among other things) on sweet Emma.

Lachlain is a hot lykae, he's been imprisoned by vampires for a century and a half until he smells his mate and escapes hell to go find her. Emma is half valkyrie, half vampire, very sweet, tender and innocent. He takes her by surprise, kidnap I really enjoyed the prequel to this series and this book did not disappoint. Emma is half valkyrie, half vampire, very sweet, tender and innocent. He takes her by surprise, kidnaps her, after realizing she is his mate, but he doesn't tell her this. He is now behind on the way of living and technology, language, etc, which is kinda cute to see him work through and he does extremely well and fast.

I was not comfortable with him almost forcing himself on her physically, specially with her being a virgin. It felt almost as if he had no care for her feelings at times in the way he acted and spoke. "I am man, you are woman. You do as I say and that's it!" Emma and Lachlain's chemistry however is always there.

Emma does grow into her own skin by being away from the protective folds of the valkyrie family. They've always babied her and she is now, for the first time experiencing life on her own, protecting herself, making her own choices. And she is faced with a harsh truth from her past while searching for her vampire father. Destiny has given her a hard task and she executes it well, even though if helped a bit by luck.

We meet a new character which I now like, Bowen. I do hope he gets his happy ending, after so much suffering. His character is funny, along with all the fun comments and moments with the valkyrie! I can't wait to read the developing story between Lucia and Garreth! He is smitten, and I'm sure their book will be pretty hot.

We still get to see all the characters as they are always involved. The valkyrie seem to keep marrying the wrong kind according to their standards. The vampires are now at war with the valkyrie all over the world. Ivo is hunting someone and they have to figure out who it is.

For the most part in this book there wasn't a lot of action, it came in spurs, and then we were sitting again while Emma was kidnapped and traveling and experiencing a lot of sexual tension. But I would definitely recommend this series. It's light, fun and sexy. ...more

The second book in the Immortals After Dark series introduces the Lykae Clan with it's very sexy pack leader, Lachlain MacRieve. If you think Kresley Cole's vampires are sexy, wait till you meet the werewolves. Imagine Gerard Butler multiplied by hundreds. The Scottish accent, the strength, the alpha male vibe, all of it made me fell in love with Ms. Cole's werewolves.

After 150 years of imprisonment at the hands of the vampires, he senses his mate somewhere in Paris and escapes his bonds, even if that means severing his leg (I was happy to realize at this point, that werewolves regenerate ). Now for me that was more than just plain sexy. To endanger his life for a mate he hadn't yet met means that he would do anything for her, no matter what. And even after he realizes she's a vampire, he doesn't hurt her just to get rid of her, he protects Emma, trying to see the good in her. It also made me sad, because it meant that he truly was alone before he sensed her, even before he was captured by the Horde vampires.

What I found really maddening were Emma's insecurities. Would her aunts like Lachlain, would they have a problem with him being a werewolf, would they try to hurt him... Not once does she think "Hey, I like him, I'll take him as he is, if they don't like it, so be it!" The little confusion I was having ended when, at a more careful reading, I realized that the events in this book happen at the same time as The Warlord Wants Forever, at which point I understood that Lachlain was, in Emma's eyes, the first "enemy" to mate with a Valkirie. Still, Emma's insecurities bugged me a lot. I understood them, but I still wanted to shake her up a little bit.

This book, although not my favorite in the series, made me hungry for more IAD stories. The main reason I had this moment of "I'm going to read this series as fast as I can" thinking was because of Lothaire. This book introduces "the Enemy of the old", the mysterious bad vampire Lothaire.

But back to the book in question. I liked the fact that Emma finally got past her insecurities and her fears. I wish she would've done it sooner, but better late than never. I loved Lachlain and his entire pack. They all had that "larger than life" air. I hope we'll get more werewolf heroes in the future from Ms. Cole. ...more

Good character development. Cole is good in that department. Had been awhile since I read this series so was trying to follow and remember the others from the same time frame. Enjoyable.
