Cast in Shadow Review You know that feeling of when you're hoping that something turns out for the better, even though you're expecting the worst...
Yeah kind of like that. Well that's what I got out of the first book of the Elantra series.
I was very pleased that there was more world building than Cast in Moonlight provided. It made a lot more sense now that I've read the first book.

Wavering between 2 and 3 stars. This had some interesting ideas, but was dragged down by sloppy writing. Fragments and single-sentence paragraphs abound. Also, a bit of exposition wouldn't have hurt -- there's a ~huge mystery~, but not much is explained in general about the world, politics, etc. Every other character seems to know what's happening except for the protagonist (and since this is third-person limited, the reader). Ehhh.
