I'd always loved Spade from the Night Huntress series, so his own book was always going to appeal to me. Here we discover more about his aristocratic past, and his tragic love of a human woman which had coloured his relationships for hundreds of years. Denise, Cat's best friend, never previously struck me as heroine material but she comes into her own after a demon forces her to do his dirty work.
