Eh. My friend reccomended this series to me, and it's one of her all time favorites. I think readers of Janet Evanovich who love Vampires would really like this title, but it takes a really special book to make me like vampires, and this just wasn't it for me. The premise is that someone is killing off vampires, and heroine has to solve the crime---but I just didn't care about the dead vampires, and never really felt a threat. Also: Wererats? Uh. No. Werewolves = sexy. Wererats = no.

I would classify the Anita Blake books as Erotic Horror. There are Vampires, Werewolves 🐺 and other were animals (both good and bad), as well as legal Zombie raising for the purpose of asking questions of the dead (wills, criminal witnesses, etc). Because I have recently become somewhat voracious about the urban fantasy genre, my husband bought me the first Anita Blake book... I am all of 3 chapters in, but I can already tell that I will probably enjoy them. The writing style is very no-nonsense and straight forward. Through enjoyed this, keeps moving right from the start. Anita is a really good character. I did get a little bit confused by the story line (as to why the master vamp really wanted to kill her when she also wanted her to find out who the serial killer was). Did get rather attached to Philip as well (got a little bit emotional at the end).
Looking forward to continuing with the series.
