This was so much better as an audiobook -- the actor who does the story is amazing. Now I understand why there's a YEAR LONG WAIT for the audiobook version of Scarlet!
[I also reviewed this title on my blog: Ishari's Bookshelf]
I'll freely admit it - I get sucked into retellings of fairytales. I actually have several different different retellings sitting on my shelf right now waiting to be read...
...and let me tell you - Cinder was an excellent read!

I first heard about this book when it came out and honestly, it didn't appeal to me. I'm not a huge fan of science fiction books. I've read a few young adult science fiction and the ones I did read weren't anything special. It's just not my favorite genre.
Now it's been a couple of years since this book came out and the series is now completed and I have been seeing it everywhere on #bookstagram and #booktube , as highly recommended, so I decided to give it a try. Fast forward to me completing t ...more

Contrary to what usually happens when one reads YA books, I really like the characters, they are surprisingly not whiny, although a bit anachronic. I'm just baffled by this book's complete lack of a third act. I know, books come in sagas now, but this is ridiculous, this book literally ends in the middle of the second act. Right in the middle of a scene. It's only 300 odd pages, you can put a few more and reach some sort of closure. Yes, you can. AUTHORS!: You can finish your books, you can trus

I love re-told fairytales (if done right). This was incredibly different I loved it. My only issue is the next book isn't out until next year!

Cinder by Marissa Meyer is the first book in the Lunar Chronicles series. The Lunar Chronicles is a fairytale retelling of Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel and Snow White.
In Cinder, we are introduced to Lin Cinder, a 16 year-old cyborg girl. She’s a gifted mechanic in the city of New Beijing in the Eastern Commonwealth. She lives with her stepmother Audrey who blames her for her husband’s death, and her two stepsisters, Pearl and Peony. Audrey forces Cinder to work in the marketplace ...more

I am surprised by how much I ended up actually enjoying this book. I do not normally enjoy reading the scfi/steam punk genre, but I ADORE the fairy tale retellings... I'd started reading this series before but never made it very far, but I was looking for a good series to read while I worked on my assignments, or when I'm at work shelf-reading or putting packets together, and my library happened to have this on a Playaway, so I figured why not give it another shot? I am glad I did. There was so
