I might need some time to process this book and I would hate to spoil anything to potential readers, so I would like to concentrate on what makes the story fascinating.
First, the world building is incredible. Deep and thorough. Jemisin creates a continent and fills is with language and races and layers and layers of history and lore and culture. And then shows us only the tip of it. The book lures you into the story, you want to understand what is happening. Is this Earth?

Tired of the endless slew of Tolkienesque fantasy, I asked for recommendations of fantasy-loving friends. N.K. Jemisin’s Broken Earth trilogy came up again and again.
