When I first started this book I struggled and truly thought I was going to DNF this book. I kept saying I'll give it 20 more pages and if it doesn't get better I'm done. All of a sudden I couldn't wait to see what happened next and I was hooked on this book. I thought it was going to be a 1 or 2 star book and now it's a 5 star book. Holy crap that was good! THis book was a labyrinth. A slow, wandering, desperate, sad and exciting look into a dystopia that was truly frightening.
I really don't have the words for this one. It was completely unexpected and I just....wow. I consider myself truly lucky to have stumbled on Ms Jemisin. So, so good. I recommend to anyone that loves fantasy.

This was close to 5 stars, but the story was a little tough to follow at times and I had a hard time connecting emotionally to the characters. The story is epic and some twists and turns reveal important points that definitely would make this one perfect for rereads so you can find new layers. It requires a lot of patience and trust in Jemisin and she definitely rewards this in spades.
