What Members Thought
I'm trying to stick out this series because a) I love urban fantasy and there's not enough of it, and b) I'm still (unreasonably) hoping for some romantic resolution or character growth for Jane.
I'd also like to give a big shout out now for all those liar-liar-pants-on-fire reviewers who said this series is like Kate Daniels or Mercy Thompson. That could not be further from the truth. If you're looking for a good comparison think Anita Blake (and getting more cray-cray by the minute) or Sookie S ...more

Death's Rival is the 5th Jane Yellowrock novel. A lot has happened in the past 4 books.
Jane started out as a 'rogue vampire' hunter, who was not averse to taking contracts even from vampires. After all, money speaks and vampires have a lot of it.
Now, she is in (almost) permanent employ of Leo Pellisier, the Master of the City of New Orleans. She is a lot of things, a bodyguard, an investigator, a solver of violent problems, and sometimes an errand boy. She is also too deeply enmeshed into the ...more

I thoroughly enjoyed this!
Even when I was upset for Jane at events that were happening, I was not upset with the author for writing them. Jane is beginning to face real consequences for her choice to work for the vampires, or Mithrans as they prefer to be called. She is held accountable for her response to certain events that took place in Raven Cursed. It isn't really her guilt to bear as her action was justifiable, but she shouldn't expect fairness from the Mithran's either.

Vanessa Coutu I just finished Death's Rival: A Jane Yellowrock Novel. Wow, I'm at a loss for words. This is a 5* read for me. Jane is at a crossroads in this novel. She is gaining more knowledge about who she is as a person and as a skinwalker. She is becoming less and less prone to pulling back and hiding her speed and her "Beast". Various masters of the cities are afflicted with an unknown disease and their territories are being claimed by an unknown Master. Jane is sent to a couple of them to

My goodness, Jane! What the fuck is wrong with your thinking girl? All these guys treat you like shit and you still have feelings for them? You are loca niña. WAKE UP!! Bruiser, Rick, and Leo are just using you for their hidden agendas. I'm also tired of all the "blame it of Jane" thingy and all the guilty feelings that seem to go on forever with you. For all these reasons I want to give this book 3 stars, but the writing is superb and I absolutely adore Beast, so 4 stars it is!

It took a little while for me to get into this one. Jane is a bit off her game and due to the events of the past book she's cut off from most of her support network (including a distance with beast). Once she's back in New Orleans it picks back up and a couple of new additions to the team help out. Once again it ends with some fairly big changes that I'm interested to see how they play out in future books.

If you love 6 ft badass Cherokee Skinwalkers, you need this series in your life. Seriously, every single book is better than the one before it.
