★★★★★ (This is a review of the audiobook.) Renée Raudman’s narration of this book made it even better. Flawless! She is great with differentiation, even between the males. She has the pacing of the snarky dialogue perfect, too.

This book stood out because I read it while still following the Kate Daniels series by Ilona Andrews. The husband-wife duo seemed to write a book that made me like the main leads again -- even if I didn't fall in love with them the way I did with Kate & Curran and still haven't!

What a fantastic book, loved the mythology ad the premise. I was hooked from start to finish. Not giving anything away but the ended had me so satisfied, I was grinning with each kick. And the little references to An Officer and a Gentleman etc made me want to dive right in for a re-read to see if there was any hidden gems I missed. Can't wait for the next one!! ...more

Pretty good start for a new series. Liked the explination of the magic system, and possibilities it could unleash for the plot. Can't wait for the next one.

Form 5 to 3 stars on the second read sadly.
I am by know used to the world-building and I unfortunately zeroed in on how Rogan doesn't listen to Nevada when she tells him no. I am now too old to find that kind of persistence charming or romantic, I see it as him valuing getting what he wants more than he respects her boundaries.
I loved this book, I loved Nevada. I was a fan of the Kate Daniels series to begin, but this book is my new favorite.
