Laini Taylor's follow-up to Daughter of Smoke and Bone picks up with Zuzana & Mik trying to track down an MIA Karou. Months have passed since the ending of the first book and while Karou has always gone off on trips for Brimstone before, they never lasted this long. The memories that came flooding back as a result of breaking the wishbone--her previous existence as Madrigal--has torn a rift in the relationship with Akiva. So when we find her in the middle of a desert in the human world with the ...more

I was so into this book. I listened to it on audio, and loved it. The characters were lovable, funny, sad, creepy, scary, and everything in between.

As always, Laini Taylor has knocked another one out of the park! In the course of reading this book I've experienced exultation and happiness and frustration and dismay. As Karou and Akiva work on their respective sides to end the war between their peoples they grapple with their continuing feelings for each other. But I hated the way Akiva and Karou were apart and couldn't get it through their thick skulls that they love each other. But I understand why it was written that way and I even liked that it was that way too. But I still hate it. :) Ziri was amazing and I really hate some of the deaths that took place(but I loved others) :). This boo ...more

Good stuff! The beginning of the book dragged a lot, but it finished strong--much stronger than the first book.

Loved it even more the second time, especially since I don't have to wait at all to read the third book! amazing character development.

This was one of the amazing middle of the trilogy books that is just as good as the original and takes the series and the characters in unexpected directions, while staying completely consistent. Love this book, love the characters.
