All the pieces were there for me to love this story (a creepy isolated setting, family secrets, uptight Victorian morals, a murder mystery, feminism), but it moved away from the gothic premise into a fantasy tale that I couldn't quite get into. I loved reading the beginning third and last third, and the mystery's solution was soooo satisfying, but when the Lie Tree became part of the story, I found myself plodding through.
