This book is the tale of a orphan boy who is made to impersonate a prince. With a surprising twist at the end that I saw hints of but didn't really understand till the ending which was just AWESOME! We get to see parts of Sage's life, and his resistance to being trained to be a prince-and there is so much furious resistance to becoming what Sage was always meant to become.

WOW!
Full review @ Sporadic Reads
Even though this book is classified as Middle Grade, I find that adults would also enjoy the story that Jennifer A. Nielsen cooked up. The plot may be simple, but the elements that surrounded it made the story so strong that I've put it on my special shelf. It can be read as a stand-alone, so there isn't a huge cliffhanger in the end. But when I finished reading this, I felt like my hunger for a great book was satiated. I highly recommend this book for all ages! ...more

What a fun book! I want to go back and re-read it knowing what I know now. I listened to this one on audio (thank you YA sync) and the narrator was excellent IMO. I loved Sage the world that was created here. The writing was not dumbed down or repetitive which is often and issue I have with some YA books and the ending was very well done. I will definitely give the second book a read.
The False Prince has become the best book I have read this year..once I started it I could not put this book down! At first, I wasn't sure how much I would like this book...I'm not a huge fan of all out fantasy types of books, but four hours later, I couldn't believe that I didn't pick this book up sooner.
One of my favorite parts about the book was the plot! Jennifer A. Nielsen does a fabulous job of creating a world that sucks you right into the story. Like I said above, once I started The Fals ...more

This book fell completely flat for me. I feel I'm being generous giving it 2 stars! They story was very predictable and even the "twist" at the end couldn't save it as it was completely predicable also!

I thought this was a fun & fast read. It was sometimes a little bit choppy in the writing, but I really felt that Sage was a great character. And even though I already knew the "big twist," the book still kept me very interested. I'm a bit sad that the sequel won't be out until 2013.
This would be good for the 11 & up crowd. ...more

Great middle grades fantasy book! Quick paced, kept my interest from the first page to the last sentence. Though I picked up fairly quickly on what would be the twist in the end it did not take away from my enjoyment at all. Several great characters, especially Sage. I'll definitely read the next book soon :).

I'm on a reading roll! And I really enjoyed this book! There's nothing I love more than court conspiracies, royalty, and foreign lands. Oh, and sarcastic little narrators! Review to come.
