Not bad. In fact, pretty good. It started off kinda weird, and it had a few parts that were a little strange and/or predictable. Over all, though, the plot developed nicely, and I liked the characters ... I got kind of addicted to it, and I'm eager to read the sequel when it comes out. :)

Curtains fluttering in the breeze, the dark pressing down like a blanket. You turn the pages slowly, absorbing every word and detail as the soft sent of the paper fills your nose. The tension in the book is at a max and you glance over your shoulder to make sure that the sliding shadows behind you are really just that: shadows. Back to the book, you dive in, completely immersed in the terror that's overcoming the main character.

I'm a scaredy-cat with anything that concerns ghosts, so I was reluctant to read this book and was waiting to have time to read it during daytime.
I thought the concept was promising, as it was the first book I've read about a necromancer. But the story was a bit dragging for me, and mid-way through the book I was still wondering where the whole thing was leading to.
I wasn't quite drawn to any of the characters and no one really stood out for me. The story seemed to come to an abrupt end just as ...more

Okay, let me start off by saying that I actually enjoy the premise of this book. The characters seem interesting, the plot is okay (so far), and you can tell there is a story to be told.
Here is my major problem with this book. It's NOT a BOOK! It is part of a book, it's part of a story. Don't get me wrong, I'm a fan of sequels. Sometimes books are so good you crave to see characters return and want to know what has happened in their world, because they're important to you. Sometimes you have to ...more

Ok. What to say about this book? Taking in mind that I have decided while reading this book that paranormal YA books are one of my least favorite genres, I will give it 3 stars. Perhaps if I liked this genre I may have thought this was "the best book ever", as many young people on GR tend to say about books.
Side question - how can multiple books be "the best book ever"? If it is the best, shouldn't that mean it is the best in the singular sense???

OK...I read this book a while back, so this will be a quick review as I try to remember what I thought. Look for reviews of the rest of the books in the Darkest Powers Trilogy in the future.
The Summoning was definitely an interesting book with a storyline being something that I never read before. Before reading this book, I have never read a book about a necromancer, so it was nice to explore that aspect of the supernatural world. The story is fine. Interesting, intrguing. But it reminds too much of the Dark Visions Bind-Up: The Strange Power, The Possessed, The Passion
