I finally picked this book up after having it on my shelves for nearly a decade. I can totally see why so many people compared this book to the political events happening in a certain country I don’t need to name.

This book is SPOOKY. Not because of anything overt, but because of the message it gives the reader. If you live in a society that expects you to live and think in a particular way, even those who we assume to be the most innocent will turn on you.

It also makes me think about how child I finally picked this book up after having it on my shelves for nearly a decade. I can totally see why so many people compared this book to the political events happening in a certain country I don’t need to name.

This book is SPOOKY. Not because of anything overt, but because of the message it gives the reader. If you live in a society that expects you to live and think in a particular way, even those who we assume to be the most innocent will turn on you.

It also makes me think about how children can be made into the weapons they’ve become in this book because they’re so impressionable. One of the reasons why I think parents fear their children in this book so much is because, in a way, they’re the last hope of that society. The adults are the prisoners, but the children aren’t because they never knew a world that existed without bars. Big brother is all they know.

Hope also lives in this book in the worst possible ways. It’s a thing full of lies. If you hope to live your life without problems, conform. If you hope to be free, be a prisoner. If you hope to have memories, expect them to be edited.

But probably, as most would say, the scariest thing in this book is how people can become sheep when they’re fed lies that equal a life where they don’t have to think for themselves. This part terrified me because it made me think of the mob mentality that can build on the internet right now. Whether a fact is true or isn’t, all people need is a new fact that is truth to THEM and they will follow it. This dependability on someone else telling us how to think is the downfall of so many in this book. It scares me that this is happening so often now. I won’t say specific websites because that crap is spooky.

Big Brother is always watching, fall in line.

Just to say: I believe we should wear masks not just to protect ourselves, but those we love and those we inadvertently encounter throughout our day. I know exactly what my statements about this book might allude to and no, anti-maskers, I am not one of you. Good day.
