3 1/2 Star. The premise of the story was great but I did not care for the narrators voice. It kept me detached from the characters and the actual story.
This one has a deceptively simple narrative style that grew on me as the story progressed. It really felt like there was someone in the room with me telling the story.
I like the concept of this novel, but not the actuality of it. I liked that it is based on retold Senegalese folk tales, but a) I am unfamiliar with Senegalese folk tales 2. This didn’t feel well told. As short as it is, it took me a long time to get through it, because I wasn’t enjoying it.
Paama’s husband is a glutton, a man who eats enough for twenty men, but does not enjoy what he consumes. Paama is a brilliant chef. When she leaves him, a djombi (Trickster) gives her a Chaos Stick.

An Into the Forest group read- I liked the style of the story, the characters (especially the Sisters) and the many plot twists.
