Now I love fairy tales, and I love fantasy, but Stardust I did not love. With all of the hype over this book and the movie - which I've yet to see - I expected to like Stardust instantly but that didn’t happen, and after the first fifty pages I was looking for the ending - an unusual thing for me.

A sweet fairy tale, with just enough darkness that it isn't saccharine. A bit of romance, a bit of sarcasm, a bit of royal intrigue, and a changeling child who loses his heart to a fallen star. What could be more delightful?

I was curious about the book because I'd seen the movie, which was... weird. I enjoyed the book overall. It was interesting to note the way that certain elements of the book were very Hollywood-ized for the movie. Particularly the action sequencing for resolution in the end and the completely random cross-dressing pirate. Yeah. I liked it fine, but it wasn't anything particularly special, and I liked Neverwhere better.
