Through the eyes of a group of trick-or-treating boys, Bradbury explores the Halloween traditions of several cultures, and the ending is perfect.

While written for middle grade readers, it was fun for me to read too. Bradbury's descriptions of Fall and Halloween are evocative; you can really tell he loved this time of year.

Re-read #1. I was able to borrow the original 1972 hardcover with illustrations by Joseph Mugnaini which perfectly complemented Bradbury's words. Although the story is boy-centric, I still think it's one that would be enjoyed by any age or gender, especially during the autumn season.

Well, that was disappointing.

Let me sum up the positives:
- imaginative and original
- beautiful imagery/descriptive settings
- nice illustrations

Now the negatives:
- too fast. One minute they're in Egypt, next they're in Greece or France or Mexico. It was so rushed
- too many kids, and no character development ( I get it, it's a short story/kids book), but seriously who were these kids!? There was Tom, but what made him special

Ray Bradbury has been on my "I should probably read at least one of his books at some point in time" list. @pagesfromwonderland reviewed this book and it sounded right up my alley. First off, the prose is beautiful. I took my gold pen out, ready to highlight, and realized I'd have to highlight the whole book. Second, the prose gets to be a little bit much by chapter 3 or 4. A fun, quick read perfect for October, read aloud around the fire. Probably most entertaining for those aged 11-15 years.
