Admittedly most of what I know about Norse mythology was gleaned from movies and, most recently, the New Zealand TV show,
The Almighty Johnsons
. Even with my limited literary experience with these myths, Harris' "retelling" felt way too simple, straightforward and modern. The latter costing the narrative authenticity and requiring conscious suspension of disbelief. The label "retelling" just doesn't fit The Gospel of Loki.
