Do you connect with romance heroines or are they just conduits needed to access your dangerous hero?

What Members Thought
The second half was better than the first half, but this book was still my least favorite Julie Garwood book. Normally, I love her work, but too many things in this book drove me nuts. Eleanor was wholly unnecessary and although Garwood heroine's are always beautiful/smart/innocent/naive/etc., this one was just a little too much for me; they're always somewhat clueless and kind of head-in-the-clouds, but Mary Rose was more than I could handle.

Didn't really enjoy the romance. There was no tension that worked for me. All the obstacles the hero and heroine faced were off. Plus I didn't like the heroine as much as I'd have preferred. She had nothing going for her really. I did love reading about the relationship she had with her brothers. There were some moments that were touching in that respect.

I had heard a lot about this book from the reviews that I read on line. But I have to say it was only okay. I had a hard time with the writing style and felt that there was a lot of the story that was slow. I thought that the characters were good, but Garwood went too far with the innocence of the character Mary Rose. She was almost silly. I can only give this book 3 out of 5 stars.
