Shea and Ethan have a very extensive history together. Too bad we don't get to know what it is until 3/4 of the book is over. It was frustrating, and I think I would have felt a lot more connected with them if I could have understood where they were each coming from. Their history as a couple is constantly hinted at. We know they were together and that Ethan didn't want to commit, but that's about it. There was a lot more than that between them, though. Both their childhoods were glosse 3.5 stars

We know they were together and that Ethan didn't want to commit, but that's about it. There was a lot more than that between them, though. Both their childhoods were glossed over, though life-altering, terrible events took place. Sure, the story was told, but I felt as if I needed more insight.

Instead, we get a great beginning; exciting and horrifying, the first few pages had me on edge already. THEN there are about 150 pages of back and forth, inner dialogue, second guessing of oneself, second guessing the person next to you, distrusting everyone, etc. Also, the relationship between the two felt very reminiscent of Noah and Samara. Ethan feels as if he has done such terrible things. Shea could do so much better. He says horrible things to her, trying to push her away, very nearly succeeding. Shea is fooled for a bit, then practically begs him to love her. Bleh. Suffice it to say, there was just something redundant in the love angle.

Okay, now the rest of the story was definitely original. It was actually really interesting. There is a mad scientist evil genius dude who kidnaps people and has a hand in some really disgusting trades. Needless to say, SOMEONE from LCR is captured, and not nice things happen. I'm continually surprised at how brutal the images are that come from Ms. Reece's books. She manages to not describe graphically, yet still give the reader a pretty good idea of the depravity of the bad guys.

I was happy with the ending. Everything tied up nicely, despite the fact that the romance sort of bored me. I'm feeling excited to read some of the stories alluded to here, namely Gabe and Cole's. Both seem to have some pretty big mountains to climb to get to normal. ...more

Author Christy Reece has a gift. She can take the most over-the-top plot and have you buy it without the slightest roll of your eyes. It's really quite a talent.

So, it wasn't the plot involving a pale, weedy man drugging strong, tough, healthy people to create mindless automatons that call him master and do his bidding that was the part I had a problem with. It wasn't the amnesia trope that resulted, either.

At first it looks like Shea (h) has turned (bad LCR angent)and is working for the enemy. Ethan (H), former lover and partner in LCR is the one who needs to go and capture her and see if it's true. Unfortunately for Shea it was true but only because Donald Rosemount (the evil enemy) had druged her with a super drug that turned people into basic robots, they feel no emotion and only do what they are told to do. What can I say. I am hooked on this author. This series is prob one of my favorites so far! Her characters are built so perfectly that you spend week after finishing the book still with this image in your mind. The romance/suspense is just right and she never fails when putting in a good storyline.
