When I read these books the first time I fell in love with Lucien within seconds. I love a tortured man with battle wounds. I love a man who has lived to tell his story. No man has a more tortured story than Lucien and his was filled with brilliance, misery and a great beauty that leaves to another happily ever after...but not for all the Lords. When I read these books the first time I fell in love with Lucien within seconds. I love a tortured man with battle wounds. I love a man who has lived to tell his story. No man has a more tortured story than Lucien and his was filled with brilliance, misery and a great beauty that leaves to another happily ever after...but not for all the Lords. No, one will suffer a great loss that will haunt him.

Lucien is the Keeper of Death and as "Death" he transports souls to heaven or hell. I found this up close and personal view into what he does to be really interesting. Whether they are Hunters, children on a way to a field trip or an elderly woman who has succumb to death in her sleep, Lucien's Demon knows exactly where to go and pulls him with.

Anya is the minor goddess of Anarchy or Chaos but she will quickly remind you there is nothing minor about her. She haunts Lucien in a way only a strawberry scented femme fatal could do. As any perfect woman, Anya is battling her own curse which will either draw her closure to Lucien or force her to do the unthinkable. Kill him.

I love their uneven flirtation from the beginning and as extreme as it was, it is so easy to relate to. Anya is a riot, literally and figuratively. The Lords's reactions to her distractions are a welcome comedy escape amongst all the drama. I especially love Paris and Strider.

Speaking of Paris...he's not even close to being my favorite and yet he really isn't a bad guy. He has a lot of issues right now and I feel sorry for him. I'm just not a fan. Strider on the other hand I'm all about. I love his charm and his snappy comebacks and he is just all around funny. The other Lords are mentioned of course but those are the ones that stand out to be the most.

Another heavily featured Lord is Reyes but his story comes next so I'll write more about him later.

All in all I really enjoyed the book. Lots of great information on what they have to do and where they are going. Their quest to find Pandora's Box is well on it's way and I love a good journey. ...more

I was a little disappointed with this book. When I started the series with The Darkest Night, I was satisfied enough to keep going with the series. I love series books. But within a few chapters of The Darkest Night, I found I had to put the book down and just walk away. One thing I can say about this author is that even when I found the book hard to read, her writing really is good. It flows.

I enjoyed this book from start to finish. Anya had her sights set on Lucien, the scarred, stoic, keeper of the demon, Death. Try as he might, Lucien could not shake Anya, the minor goddess of anarchy. She was relentless in her pursuit. The sexual tension between them was hot. It seemed as though these two would never realize their true feelings until Cronos orders Lucien to kill Anya and return the All-Key to him. I loved it! Lucien is my favorite Lord! Even though I found Anya a little annoying (and I think she was supposed to be) , even she grew on me. I can't wait for the next one. ...more
