I wasn't too sure about this one as I was going in. Can an author make a totally fucked up, blackmailing, vain and crazy character (and more...I don't want to spoil the story) a likeable Hero? This was ok. Valentine is not an easy man to like or love. His childhood plays a large part in how messed up he is and Bridget is his housekeeper who also acts as his moral compass and falls in love with him in spite of himself. One thing I was disappointed with - I wanted another scene with Valentine and his sister Eve to come full circle (trying not to spoil).
