I had this book sitting on my TBR for a while, but I wasn´t too compelled to read it because, quite frankly, vampires were always a bit too creepy for me. Anyway, I was finally convinced to give it a try and, thankfully, I was not disappointed. :)

I confess that the whole bloodsucking stuff is still kinda creepy to me - I know some people find it sexy, but I just don´t get it -, so I thank J.R. Ward for toning it down and not making such a big deal out of it. These BDB vampires are completely ...more

OMG...Beth is a regular girl doing regular girl stuff...not...regular anyways...when she sees someone outside her window she has no idea of the vampire king who has come to protect her. He has no idea that she is to be his queen. But he made a promise to a fallen warrior and he makes good on his word.

Oh let me count the ways. This is a beauty.

The intro novel into the BDB universe, it rocked my world front to back.

It had the right amount of everything.

I would not change a thing.

Read this in less than 2 days. It was a compelling read, once I got past the leather-wearing biker-mentality depicted in the first chapter, and I will be continuing the series.

I loved Fritz the butler and Butch the human cop
I liked:
the relationship of the brothers - close because of their task of protecting their race from humans and especially from 'lessers', but realistically behaving like siblings who don't always get along

if Ihad read this series first, before dark-hunter/dream hunter, than I may have given a higher rating - but i think the DH books/characters/stories are stronger and more exciting... however, I am interested in hearing about the other brothers, and have the next 3 books ready to read...
