I was actually on the look out for Rebecca (also by Daphne du Maurier) at the library, but when I couldn't find it, I settled on My Cousin Rachel instead because the blurb had aroused my curiosity.

click here.I quite enjoyed this book. The beginning was quite slow and it took a lot from me to stick to the book, however I managed and I'm glad I read this book because it's a really enjoyable read.
At times the book seems slow-paced, but when there is action, the action is hot, leaving me wanting to know more. Since My Cousin Rachel is a mystery-romance, it left me hanging at the end of each chapter, always wanting to read more.

I didn't particularly like the main characters. I disliked Rachel towards the end of the book because I seemed to have no doubt that she was malevolent. I also strongly disliked Phillip towards the end because he was such a ninny. He was wrapped around Rachel's finger, infactuated with her and was willing to give away everything for the sake of love- which, in this case, was unrequited.
When I finished the novel, I was unsure as to whether Rachel was indeed guilty or not, but after a moment's thought, I've come to the conclusion that she's innocent. However, even Daphne du Maurier herself was unsure, saying she "simply did not know".
All in all I enjoyed the book a lot, and I would like to start reading du Maurier's other books. ...more
