DNF. Read 2/3 of it and decided I have better things to do / read than slog through this. Basically a fantasy RPG in written form (or better said, a fantasy RPG rule book in novel form). Info dump after info dump, told (very much told, vs shown) in incredibly unrealistic fashion. If all these rules of mana, spellcasting, etc. are actually the rules that govern how all of that works in this world, the idea that so very very much of it is unknown to people / needs to be told is absurd. And that’s ...more

Probably going to dnf this. A search for “suffic” revealed 67 instances, mostly ‘sufficient’ or ‘sufficiently’ with the occasional ‘insufficient’ or ‘suffice.’ Anyway, it was noticeable enough that I made the search at 18%. Notice that I said “noticeable enough” and not “sufficiently noticeable.”

The are additional reasons, but I don’t think more are necessary. Notice that I didn’t say “but I think this will suffice.”

Pretty good.

An enjoyable read, at least if you're into video games and long info dumps. The characters were a bit unrealistic, though that may have just been the flawed narrator's work.
Overall a 3.5 out of 5, rounded up.
Will likely check out the next in the series!

Wow. Off the charts wow.

Unbelievably unique and enjoyable. I loved pretty much every bit of this book. From character development to a rich backstory and a unique world it is all done fantastically.

I did enjoy this. I'm not sure about future books though. The style is different from what I'm used to - almost an RPG turned into a book, but I didn't find it offensive.
In terms of the plot, I thought it was a little predictable, especially the overall flow of the characters and the choices those characters made. The system of magic and how that magic is granted to individuals is pretty interesting. I did enjoy the novelty of that. It's nice having a main character who isn't super powerful and

A Good Read.

A magic school and dungeon diving story. I enjoyed the story and the crafting. Most all the plot threads were cleared by book end. Book is self contained. Looking forward to the next book.
