I loved it.. partially because I am a complete nerd, partially because I remember almost all the 80s references, and partially because well the story is actually pretty good. Yes 25% of the book seemed to be quotes or references to pop culture mostly from the 80's and at times I almost feel like the author probably personified himself as Halliday. DNF'd at 30% of the audiobook.
Wow, people actually think this is a good story? The first 20% is an infodump giving the background of the story universe with boring narrative summary. Finally, we get to the quest and the author manages to shoehorn in a bunch of trivia and things we already know about how video games work. (I also don't know what the big deal is about Wheaton's narration.) ...more

Absolutely excellent book, I couldn't put it down. Helps to have grown up in the '80s or '90s and to be a bit of a nerd/geek!
