So far I kind of want everyone to just kill themselves so I don't have to read about their shitty life choices and what horrible people they are anymore.
Update: I only finished this because my morbid curiosity and my brother's mother-in-law forced me to. I have never wished so hard for a murder-suicide in my life, I promise you. I do not enjoy reading books about psychopaths, I really don't. ...more

I really liked it until the end. The writing was generally very good. It's hard to talk too much about it without giving things away, but I just found the ending really unsatisfactory. I'm not even sure I want to see the movie anymore just because of those last few chapters.
People talk a lot about the twists and things so I was looking forward to my mind being blown by that, but I sort of predicted most of what would happen except the end, which I thought was a bit of a mess. Until the last two ...more

By the end of the book, did I like any of the characters? No. Did I like them at the beginning? Yes. Definitely an emotional see-saw as far as the characters are concerned. I found myself switching allegiance from one person to another virtually from chapter to chapter. But this was all extremely well done, and for that reason I consider this an excellent read
A good mystery - not what I was expecting. Told in flashbacks from a wife gone missing and her husband present day, Gone Girl asks some really interesting questions about love, sanity, fidelity. It's a fantastic read and a real page-turner. I highly recommend you read it. Four out of five stars (since these have problems saving).

At the halfway point reveal of the book I double-dog-dared Flynn to finish this with a bang and not a whimper. I think she managed mostly. It must have been extremely difficult to write with the twist in the middle. Also, to avoid the dozens of other possible twists that came to my mind while reading. Some WAY more ridiculous than others. No one will read my review so I can safely include the takeaway from reading the novel: women are batshit crazy. Except for cops.
Too angry to review right now! It was interesting and had you going for the first half and then it was hateful people doing hateful things and the end just pushed me over the edge. I am mad and can't say why because too many of my friends intend on reading this.

Beach read (if you can call reading at a Cancun resort the beach). Quick, intense, sort of depressing, will definitely keep you guessing and play with your emotions. Thank you anonymous person who left the book at the hotel library!
Wow... I so did not expect this book to be what it was, which is one hell of a psychological rollercoaster. It's such a powerful example of manipulation and evil plotting and resignation. Wow...
