Another great Kinsey Milhone installment. As always Sue Grafton keeps a fresh approach. This one was a little different with Kinsey working more for herself than a client. In the end she was juggling three different cases and at times I had trouble keeping track of some of the characters.

2nd impressions - This was very enjoyable. I liked how Grafton wove in more "X" words than usual including characters names. I liked Kinsey in this one and felt she did the honorable thing all the way around on

It has been a while since I read any contemporary suspense novels, outside of the cozy variety, and have forgotten how engrossing and entertaining they can be! I really like Kinsey Millhone. She doesn't have super mental powers like Holmes or Poirot, she isn't the baddest dudette in the universe who can kill 287 ways with just her pinky finger, she isn't magnetically gorgeous and sensual with men falling helplessly enchanted in her wake, she is just an ordinary intelligent working girl with all ...more

Shelves: mystery-thriller
Sue Grafton has been the author I have had the longest relationship with. My dad introduced me to Kinsey Milhone and A is for Alibi when I was about 12. So, I was eagerly anticipating her newest novel. And, even as she is 24 letters in, this is one of her stronger books. I eagerly turned every page, wanting to see how the twists and turns would play out (a good thing, since my library only lets us have this one for one week). Kinsey Milhone is back, but this issue is not as interesting as many of the others were. There are three plots. All seem a bit contrived. It is still set in the 80's. But some of the excitement was missing. ...more
