This is the first book in the Middle School series by James Patterson and Chris Tebbetts, and illustrated by Laura Park.
It was selected by our girls local library book club for their January discussion and was a fun, fast read. it has a lot of text, but the illustrations are so numerous and integral to the story that it's almost a graphic novel.

This book is probably good for reluctant readers, but unlike Diary of Whimpy Kid which is pretty much harmless and goofy, this book touches on some pretty serious family issues (no spoilers, here) The writing had some twists. As a Middle school teacher it is a reminder of just what all those behaviorally "challenged" kids, might just be dealing with.
