So, I did the audiobook of the first Miss Peregrine's book but bought the second one. Boy, I had no idea what I was missing. I'm now going to go back and buy the first book just so I can look at the pictures.
Rigg's idea of mixing vintage photos, history, and fantasy was a surprising pleasure for me. I did not know anyone who had read this, so it's one of my "Goodreads Recommendations" (one that's talked about here but I have no 2nd-hand experience for). A peculiar novel indeed, the concept of these strange children, loops and perils had been utterly lost from my memory and it took a few chapters to get back into the swing of things. Once I was there though, what a ride! Jacob is the ultimate everyman who in true form slowly gathers his powers to overcome great peril.

I love this series; and after finishing this this one, I anxiously await the third installment.
This book has the same time and style as the first, but the story is much more an adventure. The first was about discovery and introduction, this one is much more plot driven. And both are a success.
I love the use of the historical pictures as illustration in the story. They are perfectly peculiar and fit wonderfully.

I liked this book as well as one can like a second novel in a series. Second books are much like reading the middle of a map. You need the second book because there just isn't enough pages left in the first or the third book to do the story justice. With that said, spoiler alert, the novel ended in a fashion to not only allow for, but insist on a third book. We shall continue on with the adventures of the Peculiars.
