This is a series of linked stores rather than one grand mystery solved with a drawing room reveal. The stories move in and out of each other, braided together, with some loving expressions of home and country. And I found out why the African man at work calls me ma when he's not paying attention to his English.
The novel is enjoyable to read, but gave me an earworm. Toto's Africa. I can see why, but I haven't thought of that song in years. ...more
