Whew. I put reading this book off because I knew it was going to wreck me. Reading it a second time, and in one go, was way more gut wrenching. That whole last chapter had me in straight-up tears.

I knew the damn ending and I still cried.

This book sets you up to have fun with some quirks but with a heavy, heavy cloud over head. How we get to the end is the most important part, and watching Barbara lose control, chapter after chapter, is the roughest part of the story. You know something bad loo

A story about a young girl facing the unthinkable.

An emotional comic with a real heart. It mixes fantasy with reality and depicts that all with murky art that is sometimes as impenetrable as the story itself. But that's all to the good if you're willing to take the time to carefully read it, because life is often exactly that impenetrable.

I recently read this book for the second time after a few years. I remember loving the story when I read it then, and it was just as amazing the second time around. That being said, there are some pretty tough moments in this book. Barbara, the main character, is not particularly likeable. For me, that didn't hurt the story one bit. Some people might be put off by her attitude. I think it makes the other elements of the story more impactful.

There are some fantasy elements in this book, although

I’m going to be honest with you here; I had never heard of I Kill Giants before the movie came out (no, I haven’t seen the movie yet, but I really really want to). Naturally it piqued my interest and from there it was only a matter of time before I picked up a copy to read.
I Kill Giants was created by Joe Kelly (Spider-Man/Deadpool, JLA, Spider-Man, Deadpool, Heroes) and J.M. Ken Niimura (Gotham Academy, Henshin, Zero). It got called the ‘best Indy book of 2008’ by IGN, which just further incr

Mixing fantasy with reality and humor with pathos, Joe Kelly pens an emotional, heartfelt tale in I Kill Giants. I won’t get into the plot, because I think this book reads best from a fresh perspective, slowly revealing its true heart. I knew nothing going in, and while it took a few pages for me to warm up to the main character, by the end I was fairly touched. This will definitely hit a lot of people right in the gut. The story reminds me of A Monster Calls and Daytripper, two books released a ...more

Took me a while to get into this book. Couldn't quite figure it out for the first few segments. When I did start putting it together I realized how good a story it is. I won't spoil it, but will say it's a powerful story.

One of the best graphic novels I've read in a very long time. RTC when I get my thoughts in order.

I had a hard time with a few of the art panels, particularly when Barbara sees things in the sky. I also wasn't always sure what other people were seeing, as the comic I'd drawn from Barbara's perspective. For the first issue, I wasn't sure if her fights and outbursts were also in her head. However, this is a very heartwarming book and I found Barbara's anger and grief very relatable. I physically cried a few times.

A coming of age story that focuses on a young girl who lives in a fantasy world. Throughout the story, you find out the girl is going through something, but you won’t find out until the very end. Graphics were very well done, and I really enjoyed the black and white effect. Gave a lot of depth to the story.

When I got to the end, the whole point of the whole damn book, I just sobbed. Sat and sobbed. My husband thinks I am emotionally unstable now.
