I grew up on horse stories. The first novel I ever read was Misty of Chincoteague, and I proceeded to devour everything Marguerite Henry ever wrote shortly after. Walter Farley's Black Stallion books weren't far behind. As a kid, my philosophy was pretty much that animals were way cooler than people. It was a long time before I grudgingly admitted that people could be interesting too... occasionally.

I wasn't expecting to get much out of it because I'm not really a horse person, but this was so much more than that. Stiefvater has such a way with words. She creates such a gorgeous atmosphere and sense of setting, and she always nails characterization. Yes, even the horses. ...more

This book was not in my planned reading, but I really enjoyed it! I noticed that some of my GR friends liked it and when it was available as an audio loan from the library, I decided to try it. I'm sure glad I did. I did not read The Shiver series by this author as I'm not really interested in werewolves, but I love horses! When I was young I was fascinated with horses as many young girls are, and this story brought all those feelings back for me. These are special horses in a very special setti ...more

Honestly, I was in a book hangover, so it took me a long time to get into this book. Don't like the name puck. Sean was a marysue and so was puck. The imagery of water horses was beautiful.
