Picked this book up thinking it would be a chore to read through, I’m glad to say that I have been totally wrong. This was one of the best historical books on Ancient Greece. Herodotus provides us with a Greek-centric view of the history but with surprising amount of diverse stories and mythologies of supposed “barbarians”. The Landmark version is a fine creation of Herodotus’ Histories with tons of maps laid out that make sense of this supposed ancient world.
