Appeals to a wide age range. I read about half of it aloud to my two girls - ages almost 5 and almost 14 - and both were quiet and attentive the whole time. I liked the "girl power" and learning to navigate changes in friendship messages. Enjoyed.

Well, you could knock me over with a feather. NEVER thought I would rate GN above a 1 or 2. This was such a cute MS book. It was written with panels in order, with believable characters, & with illustrations that weren't weird/out-of-proportion/strange. I remember when I was in my 20s & watched Roller Derby on TV. Thought Joanie Weston (SF Bay Area Bombers team & known as the Blonde Bomber) was a beast. Starting MS is a big step for kids - new friends, different classes, new clothes, new interes

I loved that this book took place in Oregon, my favorite state. I love that the author is a skater herself. When reading the end paper, I could picture the author skating in a bout and suddenly thinking, "you know I think there's a book in this." How right she was!

I am not usually a fan of graphic novels. However, this one tells a fantastic story that was gripping enough to keep my attention from wandering too much as I navigated between text and pictures. Based on the author's bio, it may have some autobiographical aspects of a young girl who is maneuvering the minefield of changing friendships and changing interests that often appears in middle school. My students, both boys and girls, are eating it up.

So great. So many wonderful takeaways. Your friends are going to like different things and different people, and that's okay. You won't be good at something new right away. Moms are great listeners. Blue hair is always rad. I want to give a copy to every middle school girl I know.

Not usually a fan of graphic novels, but this one was easy to follow and had a gripping story. Loosely based on the author's childhood experiences, it tells the story of changing relationships in middle school.
