The true story of Edwin Rist an American student studying in England who as a teenager became obsessed with the art of tying Victorian fishing flies, which includes the use of very rare feathers. Edwin robs the Tring museum of 299 bird skins,many over 150 years old, to use in his ties and to sell the feathers for huge sums of money.

A fascinating true crime heist of rare birds from a natural history museum. The first part of the book shares the history of the birds including the movement of explorers in the Victorian era collecting specimens for science. It was also the era of wearing those exotic finds as feathers in hats, clothing and other accessories which sadly led to the extinction of some species but also the rise of conservation laws.
