Wow this book was utterly fantastic and had it not been for the need for sleep, I would not have put it down. It was full of action, very fast-paced and just non-stop tension!

The very beginning of the book sets the scene for the rest of it. Mira is getting her ass kicked, badly. Very badly! The culprit? Another big bad, but not one Mira nor I expected! Another big bad who is trying to use Mira for his own purposes, but one which Mira will try her very best to defeat!

The very beginning of the book sets the scene for the rest of it. Mira is getting her ass kicked, badly. Very badly! The culprit? Another big bad, but not one Mira nor I expected! Another big bad who is trying to use Mira for his own purposes, but one which Mira will try her very best to defeat!

Mira finally decides to take her place as an Elder on the Coven and surprisingly is not met with many challenges. Jabari still wants to use her for his own agenda, whatever that may be, Elizabeth doesn't seem to care either way about Mira, but Macaire has his own little plan in place for getting rid of her, but Mira is not going to give up that easily.

As part of her new role, she heads to Budapest to sort out the naturi problem with Danaus, Stefan and Valerio in tow. The naturi, however, are not the real problem with Budapest. After dealing with other nightwalkers, werewolves, witches and warlocks, the naturi are a fairly simple battle and there is also a kind of temporary truce with Rowe, the one-eyed naturi, who is determined to drag Mira in front of his queen.

Mira was fantastic throughout this book. Yes she's still our tough ass, leather wearing vampire, but she becomes even tougher in this one, using not only her own powers, but those of others as well - this is a new power of hers, helped on its way by the new big bad! She's a lot more ruthless too and when she gets angry, boy does she get angry?! She also shows a bit more of her emotional side, a side she rarely shares as a centuries old vampire, but when it looks like Danaus is leaving her for another woman, she does finally break down and reveals her true feelings for him.

I still can't make Danaus out - he's very attracted to Mira, we know that, but he hates the fact that she's a nightwalker. He's got to work on this if their relationship is going to actually go anywhere!

I loved the ending of this book too, but what will Jabari's plans for Mira be now? And will Rowe even get to drag Mira in front of Aurora?

Can't wait to read the last book in this series - just hope the finale is even better than this one! ...more
