I liked this book, but there's just something about it that didn't quite click for me. I love the idea of the plot - Mira was turned into a First Blood vampire by three very powerful vampires who thought they would be able to control and manipulate her, using her as a puppet to get what they wanted and for a while that worked. But Mira has become stronger and more independent and tries to break the hold they have on her, but it's not that easy. And now Mira is the weapon everyone needs in the wa I liked this book, but there's just something about it that didn't quite click for me. And now Mira is the weapon everyone needs in the war between the races and therefore, everyone is back to trying to control and manipulate her once more!

The naturi have returned with a vengeance after the battle at the Themis compound only a few days ago and this time they are determined to break the seal between their world and Mira's which will allow all the naturi to ravage Earth as Mira knows it! Of course she has to stop them, but first she is summoned by the vampire Coven in Venice, where she is manipulated again into revealing the Coven's plans and once again has to stop them.

In the first book I liked Mira and to an extent I still do. She's strong, feisty, willing to fight to the death and vows to protect those weaker than herself, but boy is she stupid at times. I did feel sorry for her at times as she never seems to get a break from running and fighting. She just needed a couple of days to recuperate before the next big fight, but doesn't ever get the chance. She also has a short temper which will get her killed one of these days!

The pace of this book was very fast moving and everything happened so quickly including the huge fight at the end. I did expect more from it, but Mira passed out and it was all over! Shame as the build up was good.

Danaus' true nature was revealed in this one and whilst he and Mira have come to an understanding he still has every intention on killing her the first opportunity he can, yet she still trusts him. Trusts him more than the vampire Coven members who created her, but he is just as bad as those three in manipulating her, although he does help her out at times and comes in handy when locating the naturi.

I want to read the rest of this series as I want to see Rowe and his queen being defeated and I want Mira to kill Jabari - he needs a good slapping, but I don't think Mira will be able to do that for a while yet! ...more
