Not only was this an absolute amazing story, it was also a brilliant audiobook. I loved listening to Jesse Eisenberg tell this tale. I've never really had any feelings either way for Jesse as an actor, but Jesse as a reader... I highly enjoyed it.

This book has a lot going for it. One, the unique world of curse work. While you have read plenty of other books with mob characters or con artists, I have yet to come across another with anything close to a curse worker. And it's all the better for it.

Mafia meets con artists meets magic.

The world in which the story takes place is speculative... very much like our own world, if there had been curse workers (essentially people with magic/superpowers) present a long time ago up until today.

I was expecting this series to be a girly paranormal romance, that extremely trendy genre of young adult fiction. I was e

This book was okay, not great. I find it strange that I should really like some books by an author and then not so much others by the same author.
And what a sad ending for Cassel! I am curious enough to keep going though because I do want to know what happens to him.
So does that fact that her feelings for him are "worked" mean that he will never know if she had real feelings for him, like ever?
Pretty sad that.

Liked this in audio - read by Jesse eisenberg, he made a good teen. There were a few interesting truths revealed along the way in the story and potential in the supporting cast for the next books
