Such a big fan of this series. It's so unlike any book series I've read before and I really didn't think I'd enjoy it but I am hooked. Love Gin & Finn. Hate Donovon Caine and I *possible spoiler* hope he doesn't come back. (I'm up to book 4 so I don't know it all yet.)

The only downfall for me is there's a little too much useless details where I find myself skipping to the end of a few paragraphs because I really don't need to know every little detail about places that are never mentioned in the ...more

The last thing this coldhearted killer needs when I'm battling a magic more powerful than my own is a sexy distraction... especially when Donovan wants me dead just as much as the enemy.

Review- I had such high hopes for this. It's been on my "to read" list since 2016. I spent actual money on it. And not charity shop prices but over a fiver! To say I was disappointed would actually be spot on. I was so very disappointed.
First, we have our MC, she starts of strong but quickly becomes a UF heroine cliché. She tough, sassy and smart but she just sort of blunders around and I have no idea why how she became one of the South's most feared assassins. Honestly, a bangle wearing toddler could get the drop on her she is so oblivious.
Second, inappropriate sexual moments. There aren't many but the few that are are weird. And again I question how she has survived and excelled in her field. Pretty much in the first fifteen pages the most freakishly placed sex scene occurs. Our author is setting up the big setup. Gin, our MC, is in the rafters of a theatre preparing to assassinate someone. Another person walks into the scene, the male who would become our other main protagonist, and Gin has a very detailed and long sexual fantasy about him. She literally has her scope trained on her target but takes the time to just about cream herself. Who does that? Also, how unprofessional! I'm not surprised a fellow assassin sneaks on her. She took her head out of the game. Anyway, there's another weird sex scene later too.
Lastly, very little happens other than Gin lamenting the death of her mentor and whining about could of and should ofs that did happen. Oh, and getting caught or nearly caught.
I wouldn't say this is terrible, it's just not very good.

Rating - Two but really it's only worth 1.5 stars. ⭐⭐
