Honestly, I don't know if I loved the book, but I definitely didn't hate it. And I can easily see myself incorporating it into my annual reading of the books. But as I stated in the beginning, the fact that it's written in verse takes away a lot of it. However, I would sell a kidney if it meant I got to see the actual performance! Or any other organ really, you know, except the viable ones that I actually need that if I got rid of would m ...more

With a past that refuses to stay where it belongs. A struggle with the weight of a family legacy he never wanted. As past and present fuse ominously, both father and son learn the uncomfortable truth: sometimes, darkness comes from unexpected places.
Harry Potter and the Cursed Child was a two-plus year journey. But its origin goes much further. Approximately ten years after the publication of the last Harry Potter novel, circa 2002, J.K. Rowling began to especially consider the epi ...more

What everyone needs to keep in mind before starting this, is that this is the script of the screenplay that is currently being performed in London. Because, unfortunately, the whole world cannot travel to London to see this play, JK Rowling kindly released the script. This is not a book.
Im debating if i like Draco's role in this or not, he doesn't stay true to his childhood character, but maybe being a Dad and losing his wife softened him. Plus at the end of the seventh book, he and his family ...more

Two stars, but I read this in about a day and a half. This is "the eight story" in the Harry Potter series, but it's written in a play format because, well, it's a play. You know what else this is? It's fanfiction. I could have easily written this story when I was 15.
Fanfiction doesn't automatically equate bad, but it can equate silliness, fan service, and ridiculous plot points. Unfortunately, Cursed Child is guilty of all of these.

I liked this book but I was surprised to find that it was written as a screenplay. I think it was more about the relationship between Albus and his father, Harry Potter than the actual plot. After all, Albus has a lot to live up to. I also enjoyed Scorpius' character, which was also surprising since Malfoy is his lineage. I highly recommend it to anyone who has loved the Harry Potter series.
