Snooze... Stephen King should not narrate his own audiobooks. Ever.
This novella is more unsettling than it is scary, but I think it's a solid showing from King.
Scott Carey is losing weight at a rapid rate. Problem is, he doesn't look any different. This has been getting pretty harshly criticized by some and, no, it's not among his best works but I enjoy King's writing so much that I am happy whenever he releases anything new. That's not to say that I have enjoyed all of his recent output (Revival, I'm looking at you). This is just a short, heartwarming story that, yes, does cut corners with its characterizations and does play fast and loose with its hurried plot momentum to get to its ending, but I still enjoyed it. It didn’t suck. It definitely wasn’t one of his best. I prefer his 500-1000 page books. I’ve found that his short little books like this never quite sit well with me.
This story had a pretty great group of characters who in their own time and way, grew to love each other. Dinner parties, marathons, other social outings, they spent a lot together.
So much of this was so unbelievable that it didn’t really work well, in my opinion.
