Thanks to Netgalley and the publisher for an Advanced Reader Copy in exchange for an objective review. I have read two other books by Ken Follett: Pillars of the Earth and Jackdaws. I loved *Jackdaws* and gave it 5 stars. I thought Pillars was okay but didn't live up to the hype and gave it 3 stars. I really love sagas and wanted so much to enjoy the Kingsbridge books. This was a good book but for me nowhere near as compelling as the first two in the trilogy. Obviously the history of the period dictates the setting, and in Elizabethan times the world was becoming a much bigger and more accessible pace, but I did not like that so much of it happened outside England. In the earlier books, Kingsbridge itself was a character as much as a setting. In this book it was a place that people went away from and came back to, but it could have been anywhere. As always wit
