This is an entertaining, snarky fantasy action mystery jumble-of-genres. We are thrown into the midfle of the action and have to figure out a bunch of things: this entire world of space-faring necromancers who nevertheless end up in a locked-room mystery where they are getting picked off one by one, in the style of And Then There Were None. Mix Hunger Games with Clue and a smidge of Frankenstein, add in a religion of necromancy and set it in outer space. Its an odd but fun mix with Gideon and her snark at the forefront. Gideon is an orphan who literally dropped into the Ninth House, the guardians of the locked tomb, as a baby. She is raised in servitude to the Ninth House and desperate to escape. I came into this book because it was mentioned on NPR's Pop Culture Happy Hour in their segment "What's Making Me Happy." I do not recall who on the podcast recommended it but I jotted it down onto my TBR list.
It ticked many of my "things I like" boxes... cultist necromanic sword and sorcery in space.

Rounded up from 2 1/2 stars. The voice and characters weren't for me, but I appreciated the And Then There Were None-esque styling. I never really got invested in the plot and speed-read through it, which is a good sign that I'm not really invested in something. It did have its moments though, and extra points for originality and representation.
